The Upshot Wins Gold at British Podcast Awards

Last night at the O2 Indigo, The Upshot was crowned Best Sport Podcast at the 2025 British Podcast Awards - presented on stage by Maisie Adam and Joe Marler.

It feels surreal that a show which can spend an episode dissecting unjust disqualifications from the Iditarod dog-sledding race has triumphed in a category packed with heavyweight contenders like The Sports Agents, The Game and That Peter Crouch Podcast. But that’s exactly the magic of The Upshot. Brilliantly researched, hilariously off-beat, and refreshingly original.

This moment marks a milestone in Footwork’s journey. Back in early 2023, we cold-emailed The Upshot team, telling them we were fans of their newsletter and that if they ever wanted to make a podcast, Footwork Media would love to help. Two years later, here we are — with Gold in hand.

The award is a testament to the tireless creativity and vision of hosts Jack Rivlin and Zachary Sweeney-Lynch, alongside contributors Jack Stewart, JP Lockwood and George Wilde. Behind the scenes, Footwork’s production crew - Teddy Trenowden, Mikey Watson, Elizabeth Barnard and Jordan Wilson-Pearce - have been the engine room that keeps the show running at such a high level.

Many winners on the night were backed by major publishers, but this victory is proof of what can happen when two independent start-ups collaborate with nothing but an idea, a lot of graft and a love of funny sport stories.

This is Footwork Media’s first Gold at the BPAs - and we couldn’t be prouder.
